Gov. Walker responds to charges in John Doe investigation

WAUWATOSA — Gov. Scott Walker made his first comments about the secret John Doe investigation into his former and current staff Friday. He says he’s confident his integrity will remain intact.

Two women on that staff were charged Thursday with engaging in political fundraising while at work. Darlene Wink was charged with two misdemeanors, accused of doing campaign work for Walker at her county job in 2009 when Walker was Milwaukee County Executive. Walker’s Deputy Chief of Staff at the time, Kelly Rindfleisch, was charged with four felonies, accused of campaigning for a lieutenant governor candidate from her county office.

“I had an expressed and clear policy that county employees in my office and elsewhere were prohibited from using county resources and county time to be involved in political activities. it’s a policy i expressed not only publicly, I expressed repeatedly,” Walker said.

Police Reports: Two Drivers Find Reasons to Leave Scene of Crash

Police Reports: Two Drivers Find Reasons to Leave Scene of Crash

It isn't very unusual for police to come across an abandoned car. An incident Wednesday was a little stranger.

At 2:19 a.m., Milwaukee police alerted Wauwatosa police that they had come across two crashed and abandoned cars in the 3400 block of Menomonee River Parkway.

Tosa police found the two cars, both unregistered and without license plates, front-to-back in the street with moderate damage to each. The stereos in each car had been ripped out but were left in the cars. One still had the key in the ignition. Neither had been reported stolen.

The cars were towed and were being held pending the appearance of anyone claiming to own them when a 22-year-old Wauwatosa woman showed up later Wednesday at the police station looking for her car. She told officers she had stopped in the street after her temporary license plate fell off and that her car was then struck by the other... Read More

GAB gets 30 day extension to process Walker recall signatures

The Government Accountability Board has been granted an extra 30 days to process Scott Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch recall signatures

The GAB asked for at least 60 or more days to complete its official review. The GAB hopes it can finish scanning recall petitions for both Governor Walker and Lt. Governor Kleefisch, and turn them over to Walker's attorneys by January 27th.

Once the GAB finishes scanning the petitions, it must then verify the signatures for "correctness and completeness" before they are made available to the public.

Governor Walker and Lt. Governor Kleefisch will get 30 days to challenge recall signatures. Republican state senators are also being given a 20 day extension for challenging recall signatures.

Milwaukee Co. Board passes plan to bury power lines near Milwaukee Montessori School

Milwaukee County supervisors unanimously decided Tuesday to move forward with a plan that would bury power lines near Milwaukee's Montessori School and Underwood Parkway. This, after students and residents flooded the committee meeting asking the supervisors to oppose the plan for overhead lines.

Students from Milwaukee's Montessori School and neighbors nearby took their fight against high-voltage overhead power lines by their school at 95th street, near Bluemound Rd. straight to members of the Milwaukee County Board Tuesday. Their message: "Bury the Power Lines," which would come within just hundreds of feet of the school.

Timothy Russell bound over for trial

Timothy Russell, a former aide to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker will stand trial on three felony charges. The charges stem from a John Doe investigation that so far, has resulted in three people indicted.

Russell was Walker's deputy chief of staff when Walker was Milwaukee County Executive. Now, Russell is accused of taking money from a fundraiser for veterans during his tenure.

Milwaukee County Court Commissioner Barry Slagle said Monday there is enough evidence to send this case to trial, after hearing the evidence against Russell. Russell is accused of taking more than $20,000 from Operation Freedom, an annual fundraising event for veterans and their families, which Russell coordinated.

An investigator testified about bank statements recording numerous transfers of money. "The transfer out ticket dated November 24th, 2011 in the name of HGPS/Operation Freedom from account ending 4102 is for $5,000 into the personal account of Mr. Russell,"
